Massachusetts has proposed removing GLP-1 weight-loss coverage from MassHealth.
The governor’s proposed fiscal 2028 budget would not fund MassHealth to cover GLP-1 medications for weight loss alone, though the state would continue covering them for diabetes and other conditions. The legislature was still debating the budget as of April 2026. Has Massachusetts actually cut coverage?
Not as of the April 2026 reporting. The governor proposed not funding weight-loss coverage in the fiscal 2028 budget and the legislature was still debating it. Coverage for diabetes and other conditions was proposed to continue either way.
Should I wait to see what happens?
Waiting is the one option with a clear downside. If you are eligible under current rules, acting now is lower risk than assuming a proposal will fail.
